The visible plate and toggle or dimmer arm are solid metal with our cross-knurl pattern, available in Brass, Black, Steel, and Smoked Bronze. The internal module - the actual dimmer or switch mechanism carrying the electrical current - is plastic rather than metal, which is a safety requirement rather than a design choice.

A toggle switch is a simple on/off control; a dimmer lets you adjust brightness and requires an LED-compatible dimmer module if you're using LED bulbs.
